The growing adoption of Scan4Safety across the NHS continues to highlight the importance of connected systems, reliable data and practical digital tools that support frontline care.

As part of this progress, CareScan has partnered with GS1 UK to help healthcare organisations strengthen the use of GS1 standards across clinical and operational workflows.

Developed within NHS environments, CareScan was designed around the realities of day-to-day healthcare delivery, helping teams record and access critical information more efficiently during routine clinical activity. Over time, the platform has expanded beyond its early theatre use cases and is now supporting a broader range of hospital processes linked to traceability, compliance and inventory management.

The system enables barcode-driven workflows that improve visibility of products, implants, equipment and consumables throughout the patient journey. This can support organisations with areas such as stock control, recall response, procedural checks, asset tracking and digital documentation, while reducing reliance on disconnected manual systems.

The partnership with GS1 UK reflects a shared ambition to help healthcare providers move beyond isolated digital projects towards more standardised, interoperable systems that support both operational efficiency and patient safety.

As NHS organisations continue investing in digital transformation, the ability to capture accurate, standardised information within everyday workflows will remain central to building safer and more connected healthcare services.
